Summary
Although the "Legacy" or the "Silence," as called by the Talon and Zirax, was defeated over a thousand years ago, the remaining, partly inactive remnants continue to prompt further investigations by a few persistent archaeologists—partly to refute claims of a "secret Legacy species" encountered by various fortune seekers in ancient war-time facilities.
Some of these researchers believe that the hyper-aggressive lifeforms are merely intentional or accidental mutations due to environmental conditions or concealed lab accidents. The latter theory is supported by populations of these creatures found mainly in facilities with high toxic and biological hazard contamination.
The rationale for continued investigation is that essential archives about the conditions and events of the "War of Silence" were lost or destroyed. Information about the "Legacy" is therefore highly uncertain and based on dubious sources that have not been verified.
Current Situation
At the time of the game, the topic of Legacy/War of Silence generally receives no public attention. Apart from academic discussions, embellished in entertainment media as the backdrop of bizarre horror stories or actual sailor's yarn in the commentary sections of the Galactic Information Network (GIN), the topic is no longer present in the general population, even up to the governments, also due to the more than thousand years that have passed.
The old stations from the war era and ruins in unclaimed areas are therefore generally released for public use, i.e., looting, at their own risk, by DESC decree.
Internal Affairs
Although previous research suggests that the alleged threat created by the Talon poses no threat at all, there has been a noticeable increase in inquiries to the DESC and Zirax Empire Archaeological Service on these topics from certain unnamed groups.
