The term 'ship class' refers primarily to the capital ships and transport ships of the 'capital vessel' (CV) type used by the NPC factions.

These ship types are also referred to in the game as OPVs (orbital patrol vessels).

For the classification, we use the 'Atk' (Attack value) part of the 'Combat (Atk/Def)' value displayed in each blueprint (including those of the players)

What is the Attack Value?

The Atk calculates a comparative value from all turrets and weapon systems (except Sentry Guns) carried by an OPV. No distinction is made between activated and deactivated. The decisive factor is the calculated value, which is determined by impact and area damage as well as rate of fire.

Important: How well the ship is armored or whether it has shields ( 'Def' in the blueprint combat info) is currently not included in the ship class calculation, since all damage (without shields) is always block-based and shields and their value is always the same and does not correlate or vary with combat strength.

How is the subdivision organized?

There is one main TIER class. The TIERs are then subdivided into up to three subclasses depending on the range of attack values. In addition, there are two special forms with freighters and carrier ships that are not specifically categorized into TIERs but rather refer to a primary feature and may have weaker or stronger attack values compared to a TIER class.

How is this used in the game?

The categorization is currently primarily used by content creators and those who submit blueprints for inclusion in the game. To ensure that the OPVs can be used correctly (e.g. in the dynamic space defense of the NPC stations), the ships are assigned to spawn groups based on the following classification into combat class tiers.

The syntax is: OPV<faction name><tier>

Example: OPVUCHT5
