Summary
The Progenitors are an extinct species, widely known by name, whose artifacts are scattered throughout the galaxy.
Research suggests that the Progenitors were either wiped out by a galactic catastrophe or left the galaxy. Numerous other theories have been examined in recent years, most of which have been dismissed. Reliable, publicly accessible research data is not available.
Current Situation
Most of these artifacts are accompanied by so-called VOID structures. While this is rare in the rest of the galaxy, it is almost the norm in TESCH space.
Although the TESCH, as a machine civilization, are completely uninterested in the rest of the galaxy and its inhabitants, they have quietly asked the DESC to assign archaeologists to investigate. The Tesch justify this with the need to avoid any of the VOID structures at all costs and cannot approach them themselves. At least that is the official entry in the DESC's public records.
Internal Affairs
So far, research documents do not reveal what connection Progenitors, VOID, and TESCH might have. A recently found but not yet confirmed theory suggests that the Progenitors might have existed both as bodiless and bound to local objects.
