Summary
The inhabitants of the Varna system, initially derogatorily called "Dust Eaters" by the Zirax in their first big conflict and later known as "Ravagers" after their defeat, are one of the few cultures to have not only survived a military confrontation with the Zirax Empire but also risen from it.
The Clan Council, the current government of the Varna system, maintains good relations with all major factions in the vicinity and regularly sends agricultural and technical specialists to neighboring systems. The Ravager society is deeply religious, venerating multiple deities, including the god of war. Ceremonies and confessions are still held today as outlined in the sacred book Lupus Liber. Their faith is reflected in both architecture and the general design of ships and buildings.
The combat training on Varna III remains renowned throughout the sector. Being designated a "Ravager" there is one of the highest honors a fighter can achieve in the known galaxy.
Current Situation
Reports indicate that the Clan Council is increasingly striving for good relations with the Brotherhood of Farr and the ARC, both for technological exchange and the exchange of services and know-how.
The Ravagers' craftsmanship in handling and improvising with low-tech, as well as their ability to maximize yields under extreme agricultural conditions, is highly sought after in parts of the galaxy and among certain factions, particularly the Free Colonists. Agricultural and craft experts from the Ravagers are now a regular or at least advisory part of almost all current deep space colonization expeditions, as recommended by the DESC.
Internal Affairs
The success of the Ravagers in the deep space colonization program and the unresolved conflict with the Zirax Empire repeatedly create friction within the DESC. Previous mediations have had only moderate success. Armed, local battles and bigger conflicts between the Zirax and Ravagers seem once again to be on the rise.
